February 2025
It was with great sadness that we had to bid farewell to Prof. Dr Klaus Brandenburg on 4 February 2025.
Prof Brandenburg had worked in the Biophysics research group at the Research Centre Borstel since 1974. With his outstanding expertise and tireless research activities beyond his retirement, he made significant contributions to structural research and drug development against bacterial infections. His award-winning work has been recognised far beyond Germany's borders and has had a significant influence on research in this field.
In 2013, the spin-off from the Research Centre Borstel Leibniz Centre for Medical and Biosciences took place and Brandenburg Antiinfektiva GmbH was founded.
Prof Brandenburg was highly regarded not only as an excellent scientist, but also as an inspiring dialogue partner. With his friendly, humorous and integrative manner, he characterised every collaboration.
In Prof Brandenburg, we have lost an outstanding scientist, a valued colleague and a wonderful person.
